Lesson 4: Definite Articles and Intonation
Lesson Objectives:
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
- Correctly use definite and indefinite articles in French.
- Recognize and apply rising and falling intonation in speech.
- Form simple sentences and questions using proper intonation.
Duration: 1 hour
- Definite and Indefinite Articles (20 minutes)
- Read and review the rules on the indefinite article (page 26).
- Complete the exercises:
- Fill in with “un” or “une” (page 26, exercise 1).
- Underline the correct article in the sentences (page 26, exercise 2).
- Write the words in the plural (page 26, exercise 6).
- Understanding Rising and Falling Intonation (15 minutes)
- Study the section on questions without an interrogative word (page 28).
- Listen to the sentences and determine whether the intonation is rising or falling (page 28, exercise 9).
- Complete the sentences with “?” or “.” according to the intonation (page 28, exercise 10).
- Practice (15 minutes)
- Complete the dialogues using “?” or “.” (page 29, exercise 12).
- Rearrange the sentences to form logical dialogues (page 29, exercise 13).
- Review (10 minutes)
- Reread the dialogue examples (page 30, intercultural section).
- Take a quiz.
