Lesson 15: How much does it cost? (1 hour)
Objectives:
• Learn shopping and commerce-related vocabulary.
• Use the interrogatives “how much” and “how” to ask questions.
• Express polite requests using the conditional.
- Listening Comprehension and Vocabulary (20 minutes)
- Match dialogues to places (Page 88, Activity 1a) – 10 minutes:
- Listen to the dialogues and identify the corresponding locations.
- Check the correct answers (Page 88, Activity 1b) – 5 minutes:
- Note the prices and payment methods for each dialogue.
- Identify different shops (Page 88, Activity 2) – 5 minutes:
- Look at the illustrations and match them with shop names.
- Phonetics: Vowel sounds [ø], [e], and [ɛ] (15 minutes)
- Work on price sounds (Page 89, Activities 1 and 2) – 8 minutes:
- Listen to the sentences and identify the specific sounds.
- Listen and pronounce prices (Page 89, Activity 2) – 7 minutes:
- Repeat numbers to practice correct pronunciation.
- Grammar: The Conditional for Politeness (15 minutes)
- Transform sentences (Page 92, Activity 3) – 8 minutes:
- Rewrite simple requests using the conditional (e.g., “Do you have bread?” → “I would like some bread, please.”).
- Complete dialogues (Page 92, Activity 2) – 7 minutes:
- Use polite expressions to ask for items.
- Speaking and Writing (10 minutes)
- Ask questions about shopping (Page 90, Activity 4) – 5 minutes:
- Examples: “How much do the apples cost?” or “How do you pay?”
- Prepare a market scene (Page 96, Activity 1) – 5 minutes:
- Role-play as a seller and customer, creating a realistic shopping interaction.
